My name is David Calderon Zonana, I’m 27 years old and I was born and raised in Mexico City. I belong to the third generation of a Jewish family that migrated, from my Dad’s side from Turkey and Greece, and from my mom’s side from Syria and Egypt. I’ve always been obsessed with my family history and the way it has been inherited to me through stories and memories. This obsession has led me to study and earn a degree on Literature and Creative Writing; to work as a tour guide in the Sinagoga Histórica Justo Sierra 71, where I lead tours focusing on the Jewish History of Mexico City; and, more recently, this journey has led me to start my own publishing project called Pocket Abuelitas— a collection of recipes from Jewish grandmothers, where the recipes become the perfect excuse to tell their stories and celebrate their lives.

We really enjoyed the tour and David was wonderful!
He was full of enthusiasm and smiles and we loved all the stories he told.
He was very knowledgeable and all in all - a fabulous couple of hours!

Toured with David. What an exceptional and wonderful man with knowledge, spirit and ability to read the needs of his group. There were four of us from Toronto. We found him the best guide we have had thus far. Information about the Jewish history and the surroundings was impeccable seeing the Synagoge Cultural Centre was wonderful and informative.
