Estudio 71, Arte contemporáneo | UNDER A THAWING LAKE at Dark Arts International

The actors have only just met and their scripted production has dissolved into improv while the theater housing them faces a similarly uncertain future. One is interrupting the others, constantly trying to steer away from the humor of the fact that the stage they are on is being taken apart as they perform. Electric saws cut dry wall, asbestos, and the occasional length of piping; it’s the topic of conversation. The way things are going isn’t good; in fact they’re getting dire. The theater is dilapidated and it’s worth more as scrap material than real estate. The improv goes on, as the actors can’t agree as to whether it’s even possible to stop acting. For the moment, improv appears to be the best means of improvement because without the performance there isn’t much need for a theater.
